Eric Patterson drilled a double scoring a pair of runs and the Sacramento Rivercats defeated the visiting Zephyrs 4-3 on Sunday night at Raley Field.

Oakland A's pitcher and former Major League All-Star Justin Duchscherer started the game on a rehab assignment and worked four innings allowing two hits. Another former All-Star Shawn Chacon followed and struggled in his three innings but earned the win for the Cats.

John Raynor drilled a three run home run in the fifth inning to provide the Z's scoring. New Orleans loaded the bases in the sixth and eighth with no one out and stranded them. New Orleans was 1x7 in the game with runners in scoring position and left 9 men on.

Rivercats closer Henry Rodriguez struck out five of the six batters he faced and earned his third save.

Sacramento scored four of the the three runs off of starter Willie Glen. Glen left the game with an injury in the second innings. Jay Buente and Nate Field were outstanding working 6.2 innings in the game. The Z's fall to 1-4 on the west coast trip.

Game Notes: Z's are expecting reliever Luis Ayala to join the team on Monday in Sacramento. The Z's starting rotation has taken a beating, Glen left in the second inning due to injury. The 4th time in the last 12 games, the Z's have lost its starter due to injury.

Coming Up: Sacramento will host the Zephyrs at Raley Field in game two of the four game set. New Orleans will start LH John Koronka (4-8, 4.88) against RH Chad Reineke (5-4, 4.37) at 9:05 central time. RADIO: AM 690 WIST
