Portland Beavers News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Mark Saccomanno picked up two RBIs and Tommy Manzella reached base four times as the Round Rock Express snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Portland Beavers at The Dell Diamond Sunday evening.

Lou Santangelo had a pair of hits for the Express (50-66), who rebounded from a four-game sweep at the hands of the Tacoma Rainiers.

Express starter Erick Abreu (2-0) earned the win after giving up four runs on five hits and striking out four over six innings.

Chad Huffman was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and Nick Hundley also hit a two-run homer for the Beavers (50-66).

Beavers starter Poreda (0-1), in just his second start in the Pacific Coast League, gave up five runs on six hits and five walks over 3 1/3 innings while striking out four.

The Beavers took 2-0 lead in the first but handed it right back. Mike Baxter legged out a triple down the right field line before Huffman blasted Abreu's 2-0 pitch over the left field wall.

The Express then leveled the game in the bottom of the first without the use of a hit. Poreda loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter, then threw a wild pitch and issued another walk. Chris Johnson followed with a sacrifice fly to score Brian Bogusevic.

Round Rock took the lead in the third with a two-out single by Manzella, a walk to Johnson and an RBI single by former Beaver Yordany Ramirez.

The Express padded their lead in the fourth, loading the bases again with a double by the starter Abreu, a single by Reggie Abercrombie and a walk to Edwin Maysonet. Saccomanno then chased Poreda with a two-run bloop single to right.

Bogusevic hit yet another bloop single in the fifth, a two-out, run-scoring knock to drive in Santangelo and stretch the Express lead to four.

Hundley's two-out, two-run shot in the sixth cut the Beavers' deficit in half.

The Beavers got the tying run aboard with two outs in the ninth, but Round Rock closer Chad Paronto worked out of the jam for his 17th save in 18 chances.

The Beavers and Express meet again in the second game of their four-game series Monday night at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: Huffman is 9-for-13 with two doubles, three homers, nine RBIs and five runs scored in his last three games with an at-bat ... Poreda was acquired from the White Sox in the Jake Peavy deal on July 31 ... the teams now have the same record and both sit in fourth place in their respective divisions ... Portland is 2-3 on its current eight-game road trip ... Portland's flight out of Albuquerque was delayed two hours.
