Iowa Cubs News Release

The Iowa Cubs used a three-run sixth-inning rally to defeat the Las Vegas 51s, 5-4, Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. The first ever Pacific Coast League game was played in front of 16,280 fans, a new Iowa Cubs record.

The 51s got on the board in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead after Travis Snider hit a solo home run. Iowa came back from a 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning when Chris Robinson and Matt Camp hit back-to-back singles. So Taguchi reached on an error that plated Robinson to cut Las Vegas' lead, 2-1.

Iowa took a 4-2 lead in the sixth as Micah Hoffpauir led off with a double and John-For Griffin launched a home run. Hoffpauir was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Nate Spears then hit a pinch-hit double, stole third and scored on Robinson's sacrifice fly. With a hit in the second inning, Brad Snyder improved his hitting streak to 17 games. That matched the team's high, set by Jake Fox earlier this season.

Darwin Barney collected two hits in the win and scored a run in the seventh inning to put Iowa ahead, 5-2.

The 51s plated one more run in the eighth and ninth innings but their comeback fell short.

Iowa and Las Vegas play Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Principal Park in Des Moines.
