Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox (14-16, 42-26) continued their dominance over the Yakima Bears (13-17, 34-34) this season with a 6-1 win Thursday night at Everett Memorial Stadium. The first-half West Division champion AquaSox have now defeated the first-half East Division champion Bears six times this season to go along with just one loss.
Sox starter Marcos Reyna was superb in his second start as a professional, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks to go along with six punchouts. Similar to his inaugural start, Reyna struck out more batters than innings pitched. The only run the California native allowed was on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
In the sixth inning, AquaSox center fielder Janelfry Zorrilla erased a 1-0 deficit in grand fashion when he jumped on a 3-1 pitch and blasted a three-run homer onto Lombard Avenue.
The Sox added to their lead in the seventh inning when they took advantage of a wild pitch to score one run and take a 4-1 lead. The Frogs would rally for two more runs in the eighth to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the final frame. AquaSox reliever Dominic Leone entered the game in the eighth with two outs, and closed the door in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
Sox reliever Blake Hauser (3-1) picked up the win, tossing 2.1 shutout innings of one-hit ball.
The AquaSox and Bears will face-off Thursday night in the third game of the five-game series, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Frogs will send out right-hander Victor Sanchez (6-2, 3.52 ERA), and he will be opposed by left-hander Daniel Watts (4-4, 2.06 ERA).
The first 1,000 fans for Friday's game will receive an AquaSox fleece blanket. For information about tickets, visit the AquaSox stadium store at 3802 Broadway in Everett, call 425-258-3675 or log onto aquasox.com.
