C's Climb Back From Six Down To Top Boise
August 24, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - After falling behind by six runs early on Friday afternoon, the Vancouver Canadians (41-28) rallied to top the Boise Hawks (33-36) 7-6 in front of a sold out crowd at sun soaked Scotiabank Field. Canadians 1B Balbino Fuemayor stole the show with a two-run blast to cap off the comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Boise, who had outscored Vancouver 22-11 through the first two games of this five game series, managed six runs in the top of the 2nd inning off of starter LHP Kyle Anderson. The Hawks would send 11 hitters to the plate including C Lance Rymel who hit a two-run single out to center field that scored both CF Albert Almora and SS Marco Hernandez to give Boise a 6-0 lead.
Vancouver would fight back for four runs in the bottom half of the inning with RF Carlos Ramirez hitting his 6th triple of the summer scoring 2B Christian Lopes from first base to help cut the deficit to 6-4.
Canadians 1B Balbino Fuenmayor would hit his 17th double of the summer to lead off the bottom of the 5th inning off of Boise starter RHP Tayler Scott before coming around to score on a pair of groundouts from DH Art Charles and LF Matt Newman to make it a one-run game.
1B Balbino Fuenmayor would cap off the comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning when he hit a two-run home run, his 9th of the season, off of Hawks reliever RHP Rafael DiPlan that scored CF Ian Parmley who reached base earlier in the inning on an error from DiPlan.
Canadians reliever RHP Zach Breault was fantastic in his relief of starter LHP Kyle Anderson going 4 1/3 innings allowing just two base hits while shutting down the Hawks potent offense through the 6th inning. From there LHP Colton Turner (2.0IP) and RHP Arik Sikula (1.0IP) slammed the door on Boise with Sikula managing his 7th save of the season in as many opportunities.
Notes: Canadians RF Carlos Ramirez set a franchise record for triples in a season (6) as he surpassed 2B Jon Berti who hit five for Vancouver back in 2011... CF Ian Parmley drew a pair of walks on Friday to give him 51 on the season surpassing J.D. Pruitt for 2nd on the single-season list (50)... With the victory, Vancouver moves 1/2 game clear of Eugene for the West Division lead with the Emeralds set to play in Tri-City at 7:15pm on Friday... The win is Vancouver's 41st on the season and ranks them 4th all-time in Canadians Class-A Short-Season history as they chase the 2005 mark of 46 wins for most in a single season.
