Zephyrs Rally to Defeat Omaha 4-3 in Ten

PAPILLION, NE - Kevin Kouzmanoff drilled a two out single in the tenth inning to score Kevin Mattison to give the New Orleans Zephyrs a 4-3 win in front of 9,023 fans at Werner Park. The Zephyrs have won seven of their last nine games and improve to 68-67.

The Z's took the lead in the third inning when Nick Green drilled a two run home run over the left field wall against Omaha starter Yordano Ventura. The fire-baller Ventura pitched six innings allowing three runs on seven hits in a no decision. He touched 100 mph on several pitches throughout the evening.

Former Zephyr Brett Hayes drilled a two run home run in the fourth inning to give the Chasers a 3-2 lead. It was Hayes fifth home run in the series.

Kouzmanoff led the way for the Z's with two hits and a pair of RBI. The Zephyrs third-basemen tied the contest with a two out RBI single in the sixth inning.

Mattison led off the tenth inning with walk and stole second base. He scored on the Kouzmanoff single.

Rett Varner (3-2) pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win. Varner earned his third win of the week. He also picked up a pair of wins earlier in the week against Iowa.

Oklahoma City won its game and the Zephyrs were eliminated from playoff contention in the American Southern Division. The Z's are within two games of second place.

The Chasers maintain a two game lead on Memphis in the North Division for first place with a 66-69 record.

Game Notes - The Zs improved to 11-5 in extra innings.

Coming Up- The Zephyrs will play their final road contest of the 2013 season on Sunday afternoon. The Z's and Omaha will meet 2:05. New Orleans will start RH Sam Dyson (1-2, 1.50) vs. Omaha LH John Lamb (0-2, 6.55). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM "The Ticket".
