Zephyrs hold on and win in OKC

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - Joe Thurston pounded out five hits and the Zephyrs held on to defeat Oklahoma City 4-3 in front of 9,972 fans at Bricktown Ballpark.

New Orleans starter Chris Sampson pitched seven innings allowed one run on four hits and struck-out 7 batters earning his fourth win of the season. Joe Thurston singled in the second inning, and scored on a Mike Cervenak single. Thurston singled in the third inning, stole a base and scored on a Vinny Rottino base-hit. The Zephyrs led 2-0 in the seventh when Josh Kroeger drew a two out walk. Matt Dominguez singled and Joe Thurston blasted a 2 RBI double off the wall in right field to give New Orleans a 4-0 lead. Thurston had five hits in five at bats, scored twice and had 2 RBI.

Oklahoma City scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brian Bogusevic doubled advanced to third on a hit and scored on a wild pitch.

The league leader in saves Jose Ceda entered the game in the ninth with a three run lead. He retired the lead-off hitter and Bogusevic reached on a Ozzie Martinez error. Brian Esposito singled and with two outs Osvaldo Navarro drew a walk. Brandon Barnes hit a sharp grounder to short , Martinez fielded it and made a throwing error at second base. The RedHawks scored a pair of runs to cut the lead to 4-3. Koby Clemens drew a walk before pinch hitter Drew Locke flied out to center ending the dramatic ninth inning.

Ceda earned his league leading 19th save and the Zephyrs have won two in a row. RedHawks starter Gustavo Chacin suffered the loss.
