Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Chris Davis homered twice in leading the Round Rock Express to a 7-5 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers in Saturday evening Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (38-31) staved off their first three-game losing streak, improving to 10-0 following consecutive losses. Round Rock has won five of six against the Storm Chasers (38-31).
Davis erased a 3-1 Omaha lead with a three-run homer in the fourth. Omaha tied the game 4-4 on Mike Aviles' leadoff homer in the sixth, but the Express were quick to respond. Brian Barden doubled to open the bottom of the sixth. Two batters later, Joey Butler delivered what proved to be a game-winning two-run homer to right-center. Jarrod Dyson's RBI single in the seventh pulled Omaha back to within a run at 6-5, but Davis gave the Express an insurance run with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the inning.
It was the second multiple-homer game this season for Davis, who had a three-homer game April 9 against Iowa. He also was hit by a pitch and stole a base Saturday night against Omaha.
Brett Tomko (2-3) earned the victory for the Express. He allowed four runs - three earned - on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Zach Phillips allowed a run on four hits over 1.2 innings. Cody Eppley worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his sixth save. Eppley retired four of the five batters he faced - all on strikeouts.
Kevin Pucetas (4-3) took the loss for Omaha. He worked 2.0 innings in relief and surrendered three runs on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts. Starter Bruce Chen worked 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
Omaha scored two runs on two hits and an Express error in the second. Round Rock responded with a Luis Cruz solo homer in the bottom of the inning. The Storm Chasers pushed their lead to 3-1 on Clint Robinson's third-inning sacrifice fly.
Cruz and Robinson Diaz both had two-hit games for the Express. Aviles and David Lough each had two hits for the Storm Chasers.
Round Rock and Omaha continue the four-game series Sunday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Tommy Hunter (1-1, 3.07 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while lefty Mike Montgomery (2-3, 5.00 ERA) is slated to go for the Storm Chasers.
