
Sky Sox defeat Tucson 7-6 on Taveras' eighth inning hit

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Tucson Padres 7-6 in game one of their four game set. Willy Taveras broke a 6-6 tie with an RBI single in the eighth inning, in front of 6,067 fans at Security Service Field.
Trailing 4-1 in the third inning, Ian Stewart smacked a solo home run and Jordan Pacheco drilled a bases-loaded double to give the Sox a 5-4 lead. The home run was Stewart's 11th of the season, tying him for the team lead with Charlie Blackmon.
The lead was extended to 6-4 on a solo home run by Taveras in the fourth. He would finish 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored while extending his hitting streak to 16 games.
Tucson would battle back with runs in the seventh and eighth innings on RBI doubles by Steve Tolleson and Andy Parrino to tie the game at six, setting up Taveras' heroics in the bottom of the eighth.
Sox starter Alan Johnson took a no-decision, allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 7.0 innings. Eric Stults (3-4, 6.46) picked up the win, recording the final five outs and striking out two in a scoreless appearance. Jason Ray (0-1, 4.50) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits in an inning of work.
With the win, the Sox improve to 32-37 while Tucson falls to 30-39. The Sox and Padres are back at it tomorrow in game two. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM MT.
