Tucson Padres News Release

Willy Taveras hit a go-ahead single in the bottom of the eighth inning for Colorado Springs as the Sky Sox beat the Tucson Padres Friday 7-6. The Padres had a three run lead after scoring three times in the third on a Kyle Blanks RBI double and sacrifice flies from Aaron Cunningham and Matt Clark. The Sky Sox came back to tie the game and held the Padres without a baserunner in the top of the ninth to seal the win. The Padres have now won one game in five tries on the road trip.

The Sky Sox most productive inning was the third, when they sent seven batters to the plate and scored four times. Ian Stewart hit a solo home run in the inning, and Jordan Pacheco later cleared the bases on a three-run double. Taveras' go ahead RBI in the eighth came on one of his three hits; the Major League veteran also had a home run in the fourth and a single in the first.

Luis Martinez had three of the Padres 13 hits, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Tucson starter Matt Buschmann did not factor in the decision, leaving after six innings, allowing six runs, all earned. Colt Hynes had his second scoreless outing in as many nights, leaving a runner on base and holding the Sky Sox in the seventh. The Padres are now 6-15 in one run games.
