New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Metairie, LA - The Pacific Coast League has announced that Zephyrs first baseman Larry Broadway has been named to the PCL All-Star team.
The game between the PCL and the International League will take place on July 12th at 6:00 PM CT in Toledo, Ohio and will be broadcast locally on WIST 690-AM and ESPN2.
In his second season with the Zephyrs, Broadway is hitting .311 with nine home runs and 53 RBI in 78 games as of June 29th.
Broadway started the 2005 season with New Orleans, but played in only 18 games before injuring his right knee and did not return to the Zephyrs. After rehabbing his injury in Florida, Broadway returned in late June and played eight games with the Rookie-League GCL Nationals before finishing the season and playing the final 52 games with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators.
A strong performance in the Arizona Fall League, in which he hit .339 has been followed by a solid all-around performance with the Zephyrs this season, in which the team has been at or above .500 for the majority of the year.
The representatives for the Zephyrs in the 2005 Triple-A All-Star game were current outfielder Tyrell Godwin and former infielder Rick Short.
This year's Triple-A All-Star Game will be the ninth consecutive showdown in which teams representing the International League and Pacific Coast Leagues have faced off in the mid-season event. The PCL leads the series five games to three, winning last year's contest 11-5. The first ten Triple-A All-Star Games were played in a National League affiliates versus American League affiliates format. An announcement of the Pacific Coast League All-Stars is scheduled for Thursday, June 29.
