Zephyrs Beat Up 'Birds in Finale

MEMPHIS, TN - New Orleans hit three home runs on their way to earning a series split with a 9-5 win over Memphis Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

The Zephyrs scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take control of the game. In the fourth back-to-back doubles from Jai Miller and Brett Hayes put the Z's on top. In the fifth Gaby Sanchez's fifth home run of the year put two more runs on the board and in the sixth Miller's solo homer and a wild pitch scored two more runs. New Orleans tacked on three more runs in the ninth with a two-run shot from Andy Gonzalez and RBI-double from Hayes. Jarrett Hoffpauir supplied all the Memphis offense with two home runs. The ‘Birds second baseman hit a three-run shot in the seventh and a two-run blast in the ninth.

New Orleans starter Rick VandenHurk earned the win allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts over six innings. Memphis starter Evan MacLane took the loss giving up four runs, two earned, on seven hits across five innings.

Memphis returns to action Thursday night at Nashville with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Greer Stadium. Adam Ottavino gets the ball for the ‘Birds and will oppose Sounds right-hander Josh Butler.
