Z's win in Memphis

The Zephyrs drilled three home runs and Rick VandenHurk improved to 3-0 as the Z's defeated Memphis 9-5 at Autozone Park on Tuesday night. New Orleans won its second consecutive game and earned a split in Memphis.

VandenHurk pitched six solid innings for the Z's in the win. He limited the Redbirds to a pair of hits and no runs through six innings. In the seventh he was touched up for three runs on two hits and left without retiring a hitter. Lavale Speigner pitched two scoreless innings in relief for New Orleans.

The Z's offense pounded out 11 hits and hit three home runs. Gaby Sanchez and Andy Gonzalez each drilled two run home runs and Jai Miller smoked a solo shot. New Orleans scored two runs in each of the middle innings and added a three spot in the ninth. Evan MacLane suffered the defeat pitching five innings. Redbirds shortstop Khalil Greene aided the Z's offense with three errors leading to four Z's runs.

Game Notes: Z's outfielder Cameron Maybin did not play due to a dislocated finger from Sundays game. He did hit in batting practice and was elgible to pinch hit if necessary. The Z's added pitcher Gary Glover and assigned Daniel Barone to the disabled list.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs will have an off day on Wednesday and open a four game series at Zephyr Field on Thursday night. The Z's will start RH Clay Hensley (1-1, 3.18) against one of the Minor Leagues Top Prospects RH Neftali Feliz (3-3, 3.45). Radio: WIST 690 AM
