Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Matt Buschmann gave the Beavers eight solid innings and Portland earned a split in its series with the Reno Aces by virtue of a 5-1 victory before 5,991 Tuesday afternoon at PGE Park.
Buschmann (3-6) held Reno to one unearned run on just four hits with no walks allowed in his longest outing of the season. Tuesday's outing was a night-and-day improvement against the Aces for Buschmann, who allowed a season-high 10 runs and 10 hits in just two innings of work at Reno on May 2.
Jose Lobaton was 3-for-4 and Sean Kazmar collected two hits and two RBIs for the Beavers, who have won six of their last nine games.
The Beavers (30-30) loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and scored a pair of runs when Chad Huffman grounded into a forceout and reached on a throwing error by second baseman Rusty Ryal.
An RBI single by Kazmar and a run-scoring forceout off the bat of Buschmann, who struck out three batters, scored Lobaton from third to up Portland's lead to 4-1 in the sixth. Kazmar later plated Drew Macias with a sac fly to center in the eighth.
Ed Rogers had an RBI single for the Aces (27-33), who managed just five hits in the series finale.
Reno starter Bryan Augenstein fell to 1-2 with the loss.
The Beavers are off Wednesday and will open a four-game series with Fresno at PGE Park Thursday night. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
