Beavers Take Finale Over Aces

Reno Aces News Release

PORTLAND, Ore.- Abe Woody and the Aces bullpen kept Reno within striking distance to the end, but the Portland Beavers ultimately snatched a 5-1 victory over the Aces Tuesday afternoon in the series finale at PGE Park.

The Aces scored their lone run of the afternoon in the fifth inning, cutting a two-run deficit in half. Chris Roberson singled and moved to second on an error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt. Ed Rogers then singled sharply to right, chasing home Roberson with Reno's first run. As it would turn out, though, that would be the last time the Aces would light up the scoreboard.

Reno starter Bryan Augenstein (1-2) lasted just an inning before turning the game over to the bullpen. Augenstein allowed a hit, walked two batters and surrendered two runs in the frame. From there, Woody came on to deal two scoreless innings and Jose Marte tossed a shutout fourth. Billy Spottiswood allowed two runs in two innings of work, and Jason Urquidez surrendered a run in the eighth.

The win went to Beavers starter Matt Buschmann (3-6), who allowed just the unearned run in the fifth over eight innings. Buschmann struck out three and didn't issue a free pass. Eulogio De La Cruz came on in the ninth to slam the door and preserve the series split for Portland.

The Aces will now head back to Aces Ballpark for a seven-game homestand. After an off-day on Wednesday, the Aces and Salt Lake Bees kick-off a four-game set on Thursday night. RHP Tony Barnette (4-5, 6.60 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Bees are set to counter with RHP Sean O'Sullivan (4-2, 6.44 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

The homestand begins with a Coors Light Thursday Night in the series opener, with $2 Coors Lights at the beginning of the game.
