WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AUGUST 18, 2015) -- The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have placed outfielder Mark Zagunis on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8. In a corresponding roster move, first baseman Jacob Rogers has been received from Double-A Tennessee.

Zagunis, 22, goes to the disabled list after being struck in the helmet during an at-bat against Frederick Keys reliever Jimmy Yacabonis in the fifth inning of a game at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark on August 7. Zagunis has not seen the field since.

With 71 walks, Zagunis is currently tied for the most in the circuit with Lynchburg's Mike Papi, and his .408 on-base percentage is also tops in the league, while his 69 runs scored ranks him third overall. He also leads the league with 13 hit by pitches. The Chicago Cubs Minor League Player of the Month for June 2015, Zagunis currently carries a .275 batting average with 22 doubles, the second-most triples on the Pelicans roster (4), and the second-most home runs (7).

A six-foot-tall, right-handed hitting native of Willingboro, New Jersey, the Cubs originally selected Zagunis as a catcher in the third round (78th overall) of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Virginia Tech University. He was the second backstop drafted by the Cubs that season after Kyle Schwarber (first round, fourth overall pick) and has played exclusively in the outfield this season.

Rogers, 25, returns to the Pelicans with some of the best offensive numbers in the Carolina League as well as among all Cubs minor leaguers. He leads the Pelicans in home runs (11), good for fifth-most in the CL, and his team-leading 61 RBI are still the fifth-most in the circuit despite spending nearly a month in Double-A.

Along with one homer while with Tennessee, his 12 overall round-trippers are tied for third-most in the Cubs system. After tacking on 13 RBI from his time in Double-A, he is tied for the most RBI in the Cubs system (74) with Iowa's Christian Villanueva.

A left-handed hitting native of Clearwater, Florida, Rogers batted .247 with Tennessee, striking out 23 times and drawing 16 walks in 23 games. With the Smokies, he had three doubles, no triples, scored nine runs, and he was intentionally walked twice. He returns to the Pelicans with a .257 average and .775 OPS in 90 Carolina League games, having stroked 17 doubles and scored 39 runs. Overall this year, he carries a .255 average with 117 strikeouts and 64 walks across 113 games played between the two levels.

Rogers was selected by the Cubs in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Mt. Olive College.

The Pelicans' roster is now at 25 active players, the Carolina League Limit, and includes six players on the disabled list.

The Pelicans open up a three-game series with the Winston-Salem Dash Tuesday, August 18, starting at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the Pelicans franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2015, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
