Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars are excited to announce that 20-year-old forward Zac Funk (03) has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Washington Capitals.
"I am very grateful and honoured for this opportunity with the Washington Capitals and am looking forward to the next chapter of my hockey career" said Funk.
Funk, 20, has crafted one of the most remarkable single seasons in Prince George Cougars' history. Amassing an impressive 99 points with 56 goals and 43 assists in 58 games, the Coldstream, BC native has not only become the Cougars' single-season goal leader but has also set records for the most hat-tricks (8) and the highest number of power-play goals in a single season, leading the WHL with 25 power-play goals. Additionally, Funk holds the top position among all WHL skaters in plus-minus with a remarkable +44.
"I want to thank my family, my billet families, my coaches, staff, my agency, and my friends for all of their support and their help throughout my life," added Funk.
GM & Head Coach Mark Lamb acquired Funk in January 2023 from the Calgary Hitmen in a trade involving F Carter MacAdams (04), a 2023 2nd-round pick, and a 2024 4th round pick. Accumulating 203 points (108-95-203) in 218 WHL games with the Cougars and Hitmen, Funk has also made a significant impact in the playoffs, currently tied for first on the team in scoring with five goals and three assists in 10 games.
"He is a power forward with skill who has put in the work and added layers to his game," said Lamb.
Funk and the BC Division Champion Cougars are back in action on home ice tonight against the Spokane Chiefs. You can purchase your tickets online at www.ticketsnorth.ca or visit the TicketsNorth box office located at the CN Centre.
