Everett, WA - If there's one word to describe Atley Calvert over his recent run, it's consistency.

The Moose Jaw Warriors forward was named WHL Player of the Month for February on Thursday after registering 13 goals and 14 assists in 12 games during the month.

"I'm just trying to do the little things right and if you do the little things, you're going to get rewarded," Calvert said.

Calvert's offensive explosion during February has been building over the past few months. He's currently riding a 17-game point streak, which is the longest current streak in the WHL.

The Moose Jaw product has also registered a point in 20 straight road games, a streak that stretches back into the start of November.

Calvert also had eight multi-point games in February, including a career-high five points in last Saturday's win over Spokane.

"I've got to give credit to a lot of the guys, when you play with really skilled players, it makes the game easy, especially building a bit of chemistry with Matthew Savoie and Lynden Lakovic, so it's been going well for us," Calvert said.

The 20-year-old forward said he's focused on contributing to the team's success anyway he can.

"Any time I can finish a check here or there, or any time I can win a puck battle down low, if you can do those things and eventually get to the front of the net, pucks are going to be there or something good is going to happen," he said.

"My game starts with hard work and being a guy that's been in this league for a while, you know you've got to show up every night and lay it all on the line."

Originally undrafted into the Western Hockey League, Calvert has grown into a key contributor with his hometown Warriors with 207 points in 227 career games.

He said he's been driven to prove people wrong throughout his career.

"My whole life I've kind of been overlooked, I've definitely been cut from teams that I thought I should have made and going undrafted, it builds character and definitely puts a chip on your shoulder," Calvert said.

"I'm just grateful that the Warriors gave me an opportunity to play in this league and put me in spots to succeed."

With 10 games remaining in the regular season, Calvert has already set new career highs with 41 goals, 41 assists and 82 points in 58 games this season.

After hitting the 40-goal plateau for the first time last season, Calvert said he came into this season hungry for more.

"Any time you have success in this league, you definitely look for a little bit more the next year and you want to build on what you did the year prior, so coming into this year, I had a couple of numbers in mind and at the end of the day, if you do the work, you'll see results," he said.

"I didn't have that great of a start to the season, but I was still working and doing the little things, so it was just a matter of time."

On the team front, the Warriors went 9-3-0-0 in February and have won three straight on their current U.S. Division road trip.

Calvert said the team has been able to take its game to another level during the second half.

"Ever since the boys got back from the World Juniors and our team was finally set on January 10 with adding [Savoie], it was huge and just being on this road trip right now, it helps build some chemistry and relationships off the ice," he said.

The Warriors have been on the road for over a week now with three more games remaining on the eight-game road trip.

Calvert said the team has been growing closer, which is making them a better team.

"It's been awesome," he said. "Every guy in the locker room has enjoyed being out here, we're taking it all in, every barn and every experience."

The Warriors will close out the road trip with three games in three nights this weekend, starting on Friday against the Silvertips in Everett.
