Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Jan Špunar saved all 15 pucks that came his way for his second career regular-season shutout as the Winterhawks dominated the Regina Pats in a 3-0 victory on Friday.

Portland's record now stands at 40-15-2-1 on the year (83pts, 1st U.S. Division). The Winterhawks have now achieved 40 or more wins in each of the last seven seasons (excluding the 24-game 2020-21 campaign).

Following a scoreless opening stanza that saw the Winterhawks dominate the shot counter, Portland finally converted its advantage to a goal when Hudson Darby broke the ice at 14:09 of the middle frame. The rookie took a centering pass from fellow first-year Kyle McDonough and chipped it past Ewan Huet from in close for the lead. Three minutes later, Josh Davies doubled the lead with a stellar effort, chasing down a long pass and fronting Huet's clearing bid off his forehead, then tapping it home.

The Winterhawks carried play to start the third, and a Nate Danielson power-play bullet extended the lead to three 4:57 into the final period.

Regina's Ewan Huet finished with a strong 46-save performance despite his team's defeat.

The homestand rolls on Saturday night as the Winterhawks let in the light for Glass Palace Night against Victoria at 6:00 P.M.
