Tigers Sweep Season Series with Oil Kings in Comeback Win

Medicine Hat, AB - After falling behind 4-1 after the first period, the Medicine Hat Tigers would score six unanswered goals along with Jordan Switzer's first WHL win in a 7-4 triumph over the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night.

The Oil Kings would open the scoring 2:45 into the period as Andrej Tomasec would be wide open in front of the Tiger net beating Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) to make it 1-0 Oil Kings. Medicine Hat would tie the game at 8:20 as Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) would one-time his 5th of the season past Oil Kings goaltender Kolby Hay from Matt Paranych (Edmonton, AB) & Kadon McCann (Cochrane, AB).

Edmonton would take over in a span of 3:29 starting at 11:20 where Blake Fiddler would solve Zahara for his 5th of the season. Marc Lajoie would take the lead to 3-1 for Edmonton at 12:13 with his 20th of the season. The Oil Kings would chase Zahara from the game bringing in Jordan Switzer (Edmonton, AB) who would make his first appearance in the WHL. It would would be a tough start as Edmonton would conclude their scoring in the first as Adam Jecho would tap-in his 19th of the season making it 4-1 Oil Kings heading to the 2nd period.

The Tigers would get their groove back in the second period at 4:55 as Bogdans Hodass would one-time his second of the night from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT). 52 seconds later the Tigers came heavy again as Andrew Basha would end up firing a loose puck past Kolby Hay at 5:47 to cut the Oil King lead to one. Marcus Pacheco (Edmonton, AB) & Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would tally helpers on the goal. The game tying goal in the second would come courtesy of a power play one-time blast by Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) from McKenna at 9:12. Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would snap a 22-game goalless drought as he'd shovel the fifth Tiger goal at 10:41 right off an offensive zone draw from Oasiz Wiesblatt & Gavin McKenna. Relief goaltender Jordan Switzer would make nine saves in the period to hold the Tiger lead to third period.

Off to the third period where the Tigers continued to push the paces as Tomas Mrsic would nail back his 19th of the season to make it 6-4 Tigers at 9:08 on a broken play from Bogdans Hodass. Medicine Hat would get another man-advantage shortly after and Shane Smith would be in the right place to tap-in his 28th of the season to give the Tigers a 7-4 lead.

A late push from Edmonton would see two different breakaways from Andrej Tomasec and Gracyn Sawchyn but Jordan Switzer would stand tall with 24 saves on 25 shots, all in part of his first WHL win and the 12th straight win for the Tigers over the Oil Kings in the past two seasons.

With the win the Tigers move to 34-18-5-2. The power play was running efficiently at 2/3 while it was a clean sheet on the penalty kill at 2/2.

Next up for the Tigers, their final meeting of the season against the Calgary Hitmen Sunday afternoon at Co-op Place.
