Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Minor League Baseball announced Wednesday that Montgomery Biscuits right-fielder Delmon Young has been selected to the seventh annual XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game. He will be a member of Team USA.

This is the second year Young has been selected to the Futures Game. In 2004, he was one of only three Class Low-A players to be selected to Team USA.

Young, the no. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, has been having a monster season with the Biscuits. He leads the Southern League in home runs (16), RBI (61) and slugging percentage (.587). He is also among the league leaders in several other categories, including ranking fourth in batting average (.338) and stolen bases (22) as well as ranking second in hits (91) and runs scored (51).

Young was named the Southern League Player of the Month for May (.389, 7 HR, 25 RBI, 11 SB) as well as being named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for the week of May 2-8 (.579, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 SB). He has hit in 43 of his previous 49 games, dating back to April 28 and has enjoyed two 12-game hitting streaks over that span.

Young, who is widely considered the top position player in Minor League Baseball, was named the top prospect in the Devil Rays organization by Baseball America prior to this season. In 2004, his first professional season, Young was selected to Baseball America's Minor League All-Star Team and was also named a South-Atlantic League All-Star. Young was named Baseball America's 2004 Class Low-A Player of the Year.

Young joins B.J. Upton as the two Devil Rays prospects to be named to the game. He is the first Biscuit to be selected to the Futures Game.

The XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game will be played July 10 at Comerica Park in Detroit. The game will be broadcast on ESPN at 3 p.m. CST and may also be heard on MLB Radio.
