Montgomery, Ala.- Montgomery starter Jason Hammel held Tennessee to a pair of runs over eight innings while striking out eight in a 4-2 Biscuits win Thursday night.
Enrique Gonzalez (8-3) lasted just four innings in the loss, surrendering four runs on eight hits.
Tennessee opened the scoring in the first against Hammel (6-2). Noochie Varner opened the game with a double and scored on Adam Haley's double to give the Smokies a 1-0 lead.
The final game of the series is Friday at 8:05 eastern. RHP Adam Bass (2-7, 4.29) will start for Tennessee against LHP Jason Cromer (3-3, 5.52).
