Three Barons named to All-Star Futures Game

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Major League Baseball has announced the coaching staffs and rosters for the 2005 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game, to be held on Sunday, July 10th in Detroit, and three current Birmingham Barons have been selected to the team. Barons manager Razor Shines has been selected as a coach of the USA squad and will be coaching two of his own players as Birmingham closer Bobby Jenks and centerfielder Chris Young have each been named to the USA team.

Shines is in his second year as manager of the Barons and has compiled a 111-99 record with Birmingham and took the team to the Southern League playoffs last season after winning the second-half Western Division Title. Shines, who resides in Austin, TX, won a Carolina League Championship in 2003 with the Winston-Salem Warthogs and has posted a 385-384 career record.

Young, 21, is a native of Houston, TX and is currently ranked by Baseball America as the White Sox #6 prospect. He is ranked among Southern League leaders in several offensive categories including home runs (T5th, 12), doubles, (1st, 25) and extra base hits (1st, 37).

Jenks, 24, resides in Bothell, WA and is currently leading the Southern League with 16 saves. The Barons closer has posted a 1-2 record with a 2.78 ERA in 31 appearances this season.

The XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game will end after seven innings, regardless of the score. Players and coaches will be outfitted in special XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game jerseys and will wear the caps of their Major League organization.

Hall of Famer George Brett will manage the U.S Team, while 1984 American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award winner Guillermo Hernandez will manage the World Team. Brett was a 13-time American League All-Star for the Kansas City Royals, and Hernandez was a three-time A.L. All-Star for the Detroit Tigers.
