Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 7-2 on Saturday night in front of a past-capacity crowd of 6,537 at Bethpage Ballpark.
York touched home first when Jose Herrera scored on a groundout in the second inning against Ducks' starter Joselo Diaz. Long Island matched the run when John Rodriguez belted a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the frame off Revs' starter Corey Thurman.
The score remained tied until York put up back-to-back two-run innings in the fifth and sixth. RBI singles by Herrera and Scott Grimes along with RBI doubles from James Shanks and Ramon Castro did the damage. J.R. House got the Ducks within three in the seventh on a solo home run, but York scratched out two more runs in the ninth on Castro's two-run triple to put the game away.
Thurman (7-3) got the win after pitching five and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four. Diaz (4-5) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) in five and one-thirds innings of work despite striking out a season-high nine batters.
Rodriguez and House led the team with two hits and a run batted in each.
