The York Revolution salvaged a game in their series at Long Island, winning 7-2 in front of 6,537 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY on Saturday night. Now with a 6-3 record in the second half, the Revs lead the Freedom Division by 1.5 games over the Lancaster Barnstormers who they'll meet in the opener of a three-game series on the road on Sunday night at 6 p.m.

The Revs took an early lead with a run in the second on a Chris Nowak RBI groundout. Vince Harrison was running from first on the play and slid in ahead of the flip to second to avoid the double play allowing the run to score.

John Rodriguez led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer to right field tying the game at 1-1.

That was the only run that Revs starter Corey Thurman allowed and his teammates gave him the lead for good in the top of the fifth as Jose Herrera ripped a two-out RBI single up the middle and James Shanks smashed an RBI double down the third base line, giving York a 3-1 lead.

The Revs added to that lead with two more an inning later on an RBI single to left by Scott Grimes and an RBI double to left by Ramon Castro extending the advantage to 5-1.

Thurman (7-3) allowed just one run on four hits in 5.2 innings, improving to 4-3 lifetime against the Ducks while earning his first win against Long Island since September 4, 2008. He improved to 3-1 in his career at Bethpage Ballpark, earning his first win there since July 18, 2008.

The Revs bullpen held it down from there. Ronnie Morales recorded the final out of the sixth inning striking out Lew Ford looking with two men on base.

Sean Stidfole recorded two quick outs to begin the seventh, and after J.R. House cracked a solo homer and three walks followed, Ricardo Gomez came on to retire Javier Colina on a foul popup to first with the tying runs on base. Gomez stayed on for the eighth and struck out the side, all three on called third strikes.

Shanks added two insurance runs with a triple to right-center in the top of the ninth inning.

Michael Nix finished the game, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the ninth and ending it by catching a line drive off the bat of Kraig Binick and throwing to first to double off Dan Lyons.

Offensively, Herrera led a 15-hit attack by going 4-for-5, his second four-hit game of the season (both vs. Long Island). Shanks went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and three RBI.

Ducks starter Joselo Diaz (4-5) took the loss, charged with five runs (four earned) on nine hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out nine and fanned the side in both the third and fourth innings.

At three hours and 44 minutes, it was the longest nine-inning game of the season, just one minute longer than the Revs' game on getaway night at Long Island on June 30, won by York 16-12, also avoiding a sweep.

York's Jesus Sanchez (0-0) will face Lancaster's J.D. Durbin (4-1) in Sunday's opener at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, Shoutcast.com (WPDC), and YorkRevsTV.com beginning at 5:30 with Darrell Henry on the call. The Revs lead the "War of the Roses" series 5-4.
