Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

Waldorf, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs took two of three games from the Somerset Patriots with a 6-3 win on Saturday night in front of 4,074 fans at

Regency Furniture Stadium.

The Blue Crabs jumped on Somerset starter Nic Ungs with a four-run first inning as an RBI double by second baseman Bridger Hunt and RBI singles by third baseman

Kody Kirkland and leftfielder Ben Harrison gave Southern Maryland a 3-0 lead before the Patriots could record an out. First baseman Joe Jiannetti then grounded into

a double play to score Kirkland from third and increase the Blue Crabs lead to 4-0.

Somerset got back into the game in the seventh inning as a three-run homer from designated hitter Josh Pressley (12) drew to Patriots to within one.

But that was as close as Somerset got as the Blue Crabs added two insurance runs in the seventh inning on a solo homer from centerfielder Jeremy Owens (10) and an

RBI groundout by Harrison to extend Southern Maryland's lead to 6-3. The Blue Crabs bullpen was outstanding again as relievers Charlie Manning and Jim Ed Warden

pitched three shutout innings to take the Blue Crabs to victory.

Southern Maryland got a 3-4 effort from Hunt who doubled, singled twice, and scored a run while driving in another. Designated hitter Brian Barton went 2-3 with a

double and a run scored, while catcher Christian Lopez chipped in with a 2-4 effort. Somerset first baseman Joe Burke went 2-4 and was the only Patriot to have

more than one hit.

For the second-straight evening Southern Maryland got a strong start from their starter as Nick Green tossed six shutout innings, while allowing only two hits, before

being pulled from the game in the seventh. He ended the night going six-plus innings while allowing three runs on five hits. He got the win to move to 6-4.

Somerset's Ungs (3-6) suffered the loss after allowing all six runs on nine hits in six-plus innings pitched. Warden (18) picked up the save for Southern Maryland. He

is 18-19 in save opportunities this season.

Southern Maryland will now welcome the Road Warriors to town in the first of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium on Sunday. First pitch is at 5:05. The Blue Crabs will send righty Virgil Vasquez (4-5, 5.14 ERA) to the hill against a to-be-determined pitcher for the Road Warriors. The game can be heard on www.somdbluecrabs.com.
