Waldorf, MD - Josh Pressley's three-run homer got Somerset within a run in the 7th but it was not enough as the Patriots fell 6-3 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on a hot and humid Saturday night at Regency Furniture Stadium, dropping two in a three-game set.

Pressley's bomb (12), a mammoth shot to the back of the seating berm in right field, put the Patriots on the board against Blue Crab starter Nick Green. Green (6-4) had allowed just two hits through his first half-dozen innings but back-to-back singles from Fernando Cortez and Jeff Nettles set up Pressley's jack.

Southern Maryland put the first five men of the game aboard against Nic Ungs and four of those men would score. Ungs would settle in after that, retiring 17 of the next 21 men he would face through the 6th. Finally, the Patriots got something going against the all-star Green and after Justin Huber walked to follow Pressley, Green left without recording an out in the 7th. Manning would get through the frame as Green finished 6.0 innings, yielding just five hits and three runs.

Ungs (3-6) would start the 7th by giving up a big insurance run in the form of a solo homer from Jeremy Owens. Adam Godwin singled to push Ungs out after 6.0 innings. Godwin would eventually score on a groundout against Brian McCullough, giving the Crabs a 6-3 cushion. Ungs was charged with all six runs on nine hits.

The three-run advantage would hold as Manning threw a perfect 8th and Jim Ed Warden was spotless in the 9th for his league-best 18th save in 19 attempts.

Joe Burke had two hits in the losing effort, his first multi-hit game of the season and first since September 15 of last season.
