York Revolution News Release
Bridgeport, CT- The York Revolution set the table for a comeback, and then literally walked ahead of the Bridgeport Bluefish in a 10-7 come-from-behind win on Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The win is the 40th comeback victory of the season for the Revs, adding to a club record. York will go for a four-game split and a winning record on its seven-game road trip on Thursday night before returning home to open a seven-game homestand on Friday.
Down 4-3, Michael Burgess and Bryan Pounds ripped singles to lead off the eighth inning, setting the stage for the big outburst. An errant pickoff attempt by catcher Jose Gil advanced both runners, and a walk to Brandon Chaves loaded the bases. With one out, Jared Mitchell worked a bases loaded walk from reliever John Church to tie the game, and with two outs, Isaias Tejeda took another walk to give York the lead. Kevin Rivers followed with a two-run single up the middle, giving the Revs a 7-4 cushion.
Tejeda spotted York a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out bloop RBI single to center, extending his hitting streak to 26 consecutive games, now five shy of matching both a Revs and Atlantic League record. It plated Mitchell who walked, stole a base, and took third on an error.
Bridgeport went ahead with three unearned runs in the third, scoring on a two-out, two-run double down the right field line by Sean Burroughs, and an RBI single to left by Gil for a 3-1 lead.
Burgess drilled an RBI single to right in the top of the fourth, bringing York back within 3-2.
The Bluefish answered with a sac fly to center by Luis Hernandez in the bottom of the fourth, again going back ahead by two runs at 4-2.
The Revs would punch back, as Michael Rockett smacked an RBI single to left with two outs in the fifth, bringing York within 4-3 where it would remain until the wild finish.
After scoring four times on three hits and three walks in the eighth, the Revs plated three more without benefit of a hit in the top of the ninth. Righty Hunter Helmink issued four walks and hit a batter without recording an out. Bases loaded walks to Travis Witherspoon and Mitchell pushed home the first two runs. Second baseman Luis Nunez was brought in to pitch, and was greeted by Joel Guzman who lofted a sac fly to right for his league-leading 83rd RBI.
The Bluefish also scored three runs without a hit in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases on three straight walks before a wild pitch from Scott Rice plated Hernandez with the first run. Rice retired Burroughs on an RBI groundout before giving way to Mike DeMark who retired Gil on an RBI groundout, and retired Jonathan Galvez on a fly out to right field to end it.
York righty Manny Corpas (3-1) picked up the win after a perfect seventh. Ricardo Gomez followed with a scoreless eighth inning.
Tony Pena worked his fifth straight quality start in the no-decision, allowing four runs but only one earned run in six innings.
Church (1-1) took the loss for Bridgeport, allowing all four runs in the eighth after his previous 16 outings were scoreless.
Burgess led the York offense, going 3-for-3 with a double, RBI, and reaching base all four times.
