York Revolution News Release

Bridgeport, CT- The York Revolution took their fifth lead of the night on a Brandon Chaves single in the top of the 11th inning and made it count in a wild 8-7 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Thursday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Revs earn a four-game split by winning the last two, and a winning record on their seven-game road trip (4-3), returning home to kick off a seven-game homestand on Friday night against the Somerset Patriots.

On four separate occasions, York took leads only to see Bridgeport tie the score. The Bluefish never went in front, however, and the Revs finally outlasted the persistent effort, improving to 7-3 in extra-inning contests.

York took advantage of eight walks from Bluefish starter Matthew Spann to complement the offense in the first half of the game.

The Revs scored first in the top of the second inning when Keith Castillo crossed the plate on a throwing error by second baseman Luis Rodriguez, attempting a double play turn.

Bridgeport answered with a sac fly from Angelys Nina in the bottom of the second, tying the score at 1-1.

The Revs went back ahead with two runs in the third, scoring on an RBI single to right by Josh Wilson and a sac fly to center from Chaves.

The Bluefish again evened the score as Jonathan Galvez lined a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the fourth, squaring things at 3-3. The home run was the ninth of the season for Galvez, and his fourth against the Revs.

York ripped off three runs in the top of the fifth, ending the night for Spann after an RBI infield hit by Joel Guzman who claimed his league-leading 84th RBI, and a two-run single to left by Isaias Tejeda. Tejeda had already extended his hitting streak to 27 consecutive games with a single the inning before, as he moves within four games of tying the Atlantic League and Revs franchise record.

Bridgeport got one back in the sixth on a two-out RBI single to left from Nina, and then rallied for two runs to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh, as Sean Burroughs singled up the middle to plate a run, and Jose Cuevas came home on a wild pitch.

The Revs made their first bid at a late-inning victory in the eighth as Castillo led off with a single to center, took third on a groundout, and scored on a base hit to center by Bryan Pounds.

The Bluefish answered back in the bottom of the eighth as Endy Chavez (4-for-4) singled to an open left side, driving in a two-out run to tie the game at 7-7.

Both bullpens held until the 11th, when Pounds ignited things with a double to deep center. Wilson's deep fly out to right advanced Pounds, and with the infield drawn in, Chaves smashed the go-ahead base hit to left field for an 8-7 lead.

Mike DeMark nailed down the victory with a perfect bottom of the 11th for his 32nd save of the season, adding to his franchise record. Michael Click (5-3) earned the win with a scoreless 10th, stranding the potential winning run at third base.

Bluefish lefty Matt Iannazzo (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing the 11th inning run.

York right-hander Micah Owings was solid in a no-decision, allowing four runs over six innings. The Revs have now won five of his last six starts.

Notes: York is now 20-9 in games decided in a team's final at-bat. The Revs finish the season series 11-9 against the Bluefish (6-4 home, 5-5 road). York won despite a season-high 15 runners left on base. The Revs stranded 14 through the first eight innings including at least one each inning, and multiple runners in each of the first five innings. York improves its league-best overall record to 69-53, and needs to go 11-7 over the final 18 games to set a franchise record for wins in a season. The Revs also improve to 29-23 in the second half, pulling within one game of Sugar Land for first place in the half. Revs lefty Frank Gailey (5-3, 3.18) faces Somerset southpaw Nik Turley (3-1, 3.30) on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The first 1,500 fans receive a DownTown bobblehead giveaway as part of the Celebrate York Series presented by Memorial Hospital. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
