Staten Island, NY"" The Staten Island Yankees (30-29) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (31-29) by the score of 5-2 Thursday night at Richmond County Ballpark. LF Chris Breen (2-4) had a two home run performance for the Yankees in the series finale. Breen hit a two run home run in the second inning that gave Staten Island a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Breen hit a solo home run to put the Yankees up 4-0.
The Tigers offensive struggles carried over to tonight's game as the team managed just five hits in the game and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position while leaving five on base. 2B Will Maddox (3-4) had three of the Tigers five hits in the game. LF Kasey Coffman (1-4) kept Connecticut in the game with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was Coffman's first home run of the season.
RHP AJ Ladwig (0-3) suffered his third loss of his professional career Thursday night. Ladwig pitched two innings while giving up three runs on five hits. RHP Josh Laxer relieved Ladwig in the third inning and went four innings while giving up two runs on three hits. Ladwig and Laxer each gave up home runs to Breen. The defense didn't help matters for the Tigers as they committed four errors in the game. SS Joey Pankake (0-4) committed two errors of the four errors. Connecticut committed eight errors in the series.
The Tigers head back home to Dodd Stadium for a three-game series with the Aberdeen IronBirds (Baltimore). In game one, Tigers send RHP Chase Edwards (5-3, 3.29) to the mound. IronBirds starter for tomorrow is TBA. Tomorrow is CT Tigers Piggy Bank Giveaway. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a CT Tigers piggy bank courtesy of the CT Department of Transportation. Gates open at 6 pm, so make sure to arrive early to get your piggy bank! It is also Friday Fireworks. Stick around after the final out for spectacular fireworks display presented by US Foods. There will also be a Pre-Game Blood Drive presented by The American Red Cross.
