Moosic, PA - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost by a score of 2-1 at the hands of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees on Saturday night. Yankees starter Tim Redding pitched 8 1/3 innings and allowed just one run for the Yankees 26th one-run victory of the season.

Syracuse (55-53) scored first with a solo homer from Leonard Davis in the third inning. It was his 12th of the year and he was the first Chiefs batter to get a hit off of Redding. The righthander from Rochester retired the first seven batters he faced and struck out four of them.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (63-45) answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double off the bat of former Chief Eric Bruntlett. He knocked in P.J. Pilittere to tie the game at one. In two games against Syracuse since his release from the Washington organization, Bruntlett is now 4-8 with a home run and 4 RBI.

The Yankees scored again in the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles by Jesus Montero and Jorge Vazquez. The latter of the base hits was a run-scoring play and it gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 2-1 lead.

The visiting Chiefs did threaten in the 8th and the 9th against Redding and Yankees closer Jonathan Albaladejo. In the 8th, Pete Orr tripled to right-center with one out and then Leonard Davis walked, but Carlos Maldonado grounded into an inning-ending double play.

In the ninth, Justin Maxwell knocked Redding out of the game with a single, stole second, but Chase Lambin flied out and Albaladejo struck out Jason Botts looking to end the game.

Redding earned his seventh win and Albaladejo his league leading 35th save in 36 tries. Despite pitching seven innings, Arnesen took the loss for the seventh time this season.

The Chiefs and Yankees will play again at PNC Field on Sunday evening. Righty Shairon Martis (6-6, 4.42) is scheduled to start for Syracuse against RHP Zach McAllister (7-7, 4.82) for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. First pitch is set for 5:05.
