Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights staged a late game rally to defeat the visiting Rochester Red Wings 8-7 at Knights Stadium. The win broke the Knights five game losing streak and extended the Red Wings loss streak to seven games.
After falling behind 7-2 in the sixth inning the Knights put together a five run inning that started off with three straight singles to load the bases. The Knights scored on a Rochester fielding error, then on an Alejandro De Aza base hit and later a wild pitch from Red Wings starter Glen Perkins.
With the game tied in the 9th inning DH Mark Teahen, on a major league rehab assignment from the Chicago White Sox, led off the inning with a single to left field. Teahen was then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Stefan Gartrell. Knights catcher Tyler Flowers then doubled in Teahen for the winning run and was mobbed by his teammates in celebration as he reached second base.
The Knights and Red Wings continue their series tomorrow at 2:15 PM. RHP Matt Zaleski (6-7, 4.41 ERA) will pitch for the Knights, the Red Wings will start RHP Matt Fox (5-8, 4.16 ERA).
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at for more information.
