Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Kids' Night Out is a program that gives deserving kids and families that normally would not be able to attend a professional baseball game the opportunity to do so. For many of the participants, not only is the opportunity to attend a professional baseball game a unique treat, but it's also the chance to see the future New York Yankees and make a dream come true.
Close to 1,000 kids in North East Pennsylvania will get the chance to check out the Yankees on Sunday afternoon August 1st, when the top team in the International League North, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, takes on second place Syracuse in the second game of a two game series at PNC Field.
The tickets for Sunday's game at PNC Field were distributed through the United Way of both Lackawanna and Luzerne County. The program is funded through unique fundraising events like the "Meet the Yankees." Where fans get a chance to meet and mingle with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre squad prior to the start of the season.
"This is an opportunity for us as an organization to give something back to the community," said Yankees President Kristen Rose. "The joy and excitement on a child's face they get the chance to go to a baseball game and enjoy a night of entertainment, makes it worthwhile."
In addition to the game tickets that were distributed for Sunday's Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game, the Lackawanna and Luzerne County United Ways, also distributed close to 1,000 t-shirts and all you can eat packages for the game along with the tickets.
