FLORENCE, KY - Capitalizing on a Tri-City error in the third inning, the Florence Y'alls scored three unearned runs in the third inning to take a lead they would not give up on the way to a 7-1 win Friday night. The win marks the first of the season for the Y'alls after having the best record in the Frontier League last season, and it represents the first win at the newly-named Thomas More Stadium in Florence.

With the score tied 1-1 in the third, Tri-City starter Matt Mercer recorded two quick outs before an error behind him at shortstop allowed Anthony Brocato to reach. Harrison DiNicola doubled and pushed Brocato to third, and Axel Johnson brought home both runners on a single. Two batters later, Brennan Price drove in Johnson with a single to give Florence a 4-1 lead.

The Y'alls (1-1) added on single runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, highlighted by a Joe Lytle RBI single and an Axel Johnson home run to cap the scoring.

The ValleyCats (1-1) scored first in the game thanks to three consecutive singles for the first three batters of the night with the RBI going to Brad Zunica, but Tri-City would not score again. Y'alls starter Edgar Martinez settled down and ended up tossing six innings of one-run ball. The righty allowed six hits, struck out four, and walked none.

DiNicola had a three-hit night for the Y'alls, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. He has six hits in the first two games of the season. Axel Johnson also had two hits for the Y'alls. Jesus Lujano and Juan Santana led the way for Tri-City with two hits apiece.

Each team looks for the series win tomorrow night at Thomas More Stadium with first pitch set for 6:36 PM. Oddy Nuñez gets the nod for the ValleyCats opposed by Jared Cheek for the Y'alls.
