Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (3-3) mustered just a single run on six hits against the Joliet Slammers (2-4) in a 3-1 series finale loss on Thursday night. The Slammers scored a run in the first inning and held the lead for the entire contest behind a dominant start from lefthander and 2022 Frontier League All-Star Cole Cook.
Joliet plated its first run in the first inning on back-to-back ground rule doubles from designated hitter Matt Feinstein and first baseman Matthew Warkentin against Florence starter Mike Kickham. Kickham pitched three innings in the game and allowed four hits and one run.
The Slammers increased their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning against Florence right-handed reliever Carter Poiry. A two-run double off the bat of Joliet shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson drove home third baseman Will Salas and second baseman Matt McGarry.
Joliet didn't need any more offense behind starting pitcher Cole Cook, who dominated through seven strong innings. The southpaw allowed just one run on six hits and struck out ten Florence hitters. Florence's lone run came in the fifth inning when left fielder Cole Brannen doubled to drive in center fielder Marcos Castillo from first base.
In the ninth inning, Florence brought the tying run to the plate when shortstop Jeremiah Burks was hit by a pitch from Joliet reliever Tanner Kiest, but second baseman Andres Rios grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.
The Y'alls finish the series against Joliet with two wins in three games. Florence begins a nine-game road trip on Friday, May 19th when it travels to begin a three-game series with the Lake Erie Crushers at 7:05 PM (ET).
