Sioux City Explorers News Release

Winnipeg-----For the second straight night the Explorers come up short in a one-run loss, 8-7 to Winnipeg Tuesday at Shaw Park. Monday, the Explorers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Goldeyes as the X's have lost the first two games of this series.

Explorers newcomer Peter Barrows gave the X's the lead in the third inning with a grand slam home run over the left field fence and Sioux City led 5-2. Barrows had five RBI's in the game and now has six RBI's in his first two games with the Explorers. However, it wasn't enough as Winnipeg came back and tied the game at 5-5 when they scored three runs in the third inning.

The Explorers would take a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning on a run scoring double by Youske Inoguchi, the first of two doubles for Inoguchi in the contest. Again, the lead didn't last long as the Goldeyes scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-6 lead on a two-run home run by Gabby Martinez. Once again, the Explorers tied the contest in the sixth inning on an infield out RBI by Brandon Newton. That tie didn't last long as the Goldeyes would score a single tally in the sixth inning and took an 8-7 lead, which would be the final score.

The Explorer hitters struck out 13 times, which equaled a season high for opposing pitchers in a game. In the first two games of the series, the Explorers have now struck out 25 times.

The Explorers will try to salvage the final game of the series Wednesday at Shaw Park against Winnipeg with game time set for 7:05.
