June 26, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release

Grand Prairie 10, Worcester 7

With the score tied at seven runs apiece in the top of the ninth inning, Grand Prairie scored three runs on the back of two extra-base hits, including a three-run homer from DH Andres Rodriguez. The AirHogs wound up defeating Worcester, 10-7. Rodriguez went 3-for-5 and raised his season average to .314. The Tornadoes scored seven third-inning runs, including a three-run homer from C Alex Trezza. But with the AirHogs pitching staff blanking Worcester the rest of the way, the lineup for Grand Prairie took full advantage of the comeback opportunity. AirHogs reliever Griffin Bailey threw a perfect eighth inning to pick up the win, keeping his season ERA at zero.

Fargo-Moorhead 9, Lincoln 3

Thre RedHawks scored seven runs in the first three innings Tuesday night against Lincoln, going on to win the game, 9-3. Fargo-Moorhead 1B Maros Rodriguez hit a double and a triple, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. On the mound, RedHawks starter Jake Laber threw seven innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts, earning his first win of the year. For Lincoln, 1B Tommy Collaro hit a two-run blast in the Saltdogs' three-run seventh, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback. Collaro's homer was his only hit of the night.

Winnipeg 8, Sioux City 7

Goldeyes 1B Gabriel Martinez hit a two-run fourth-inning home run, turning a 6-5 deficit into a 7-6 lead. Winnipeg didn't trail from that point on and won, 8-7. Martinez went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. The Explorers got a double and a triple from leadoff CF Brandon Newton. Newton scored three of his club's seven runs, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Goldeyes C Luis Alen led all players in hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Alen is now batting .310 on the season.

Laredo 10, Amarillo 5

The Lemurs scored at least one run in five of the first six innings, defeating Amarillo, 10-5. Laredo 3B John Allen hit his fourth home run of the year, going 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Sox RF Tim Alberts hit his club's only home run, going 2-for-5 with a run and three RBI. Alberts has eight home runs on the season. Lemurs reliever Bradley Banks threw a perfect fifth and sixth inning with one strikeout to pick up the win. Banks had one strikeout with no walks.

El Paso 5, Sioux Falls 2

El Paso starting pitcher Reymond Cruz struck out seven Sioux Falls batters in six innings of work, allowing only four hits with no runs to pick up the win. Cruz got some early run support, with his teammates at the plate scoring one run in each of the first three innings. Diablos leadoff SS Maikol Gonzalez scored as many runs as the Pheasants did in total, going 2-for-4 and crossing home plate twice. Sioux Falls scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth, turning a five-run deficit into a manageable, 5-2 score. But El Paso pitching took over in the ninth to preserve the victory.

Gary SouthShore 5, Kansas City 4

The RailCats scored three runs in the final two frames, turning a 3-2 deficit into a walkoff, 5-4 victory. Gary SouthShore CF singled in the winning run, accounting for his third hit and first RBI of the night. Going 3-for-5, Henry tied T-Bones LF Brandon Jones for the game high in hits. RailCats reliever Chuck Lukanen threw the final 1.1 innings, striking out two T-Bones batters while allowing one run on two hits to pick up the win. It was Lukanen's second run of the year in 14 appearances.

Wichita 10, St. Paul 1

The Wingnuts scored multiple runs in four of their eight innings at the plate Tuesday, defeating St. Paul, 10-1. Wichita 1B CJ Ziegler hit two home runs, getting the scoring started with a solo shot in the second inning. Ziegler went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. He trailed only teammate Justin Tellam in hits. Tellam, the Wichita catcher, went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI. St. Paul's only run came on a third-inning Jon Townsend groundout. Despite the RBI, Townsend went hitless on the night.
