
Early Runs Propel RedHawks in 9-3 Win over Saltdogs

Fargo, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored early and often off Lincoln starter Brandon Hedrick picking up six runs in the first two innings of a 9-3 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs at Newman Outdoor Field on June 26, 2012.
The RedHawks gave starting pitcher Jake Laber some early breathing room in the first. Fargo-Moorhead started the inning with a Zach Penprase single followed by walks to Sergio Pedroza and Nic Jackson. Two runs crossed the plate before Marcos Rodriguez hit a two-out triple down the left field line to give the RedHawks an early 4-0 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead would extend their lead in the sixth to 6-0 after a fielder's choice scored Todd Jennings and a Ryan Delgado single brought in Penprase.
Jake Laber pitched solid through six innings, working with an 8-0 lead until the Saltdogs bats came alive. Lincoln picked up five of their seven hits and scored three runs in the seventh off Fargo-Moorhead's Laber. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Tommy Collaro which was his third on the season.
Fargo-Moorhead scored one more run in the seventh before reliever Kevin Fuqua came in to finish the final two innings.
Fargo-Moorhead (18-19) out-hit Lincoln 11-7 and had multiple players with hits. Both Penprase and Jennings batted 3-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the RedHawks. Starter Jake Laber picked up his first win of the season giving up three earned runs on seven hits, with four walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Kevin Fuqua pitched two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Lincoln (15-21) starter Brandon Hedrick picked up his first loss of the season, only lasting 2 1/3 innings while giving up seven runs (six earned) on five hits with seven walks. Salomon Manriquez and Mike Provencher had two hits apiece.
Fargo-Moorhead and Lincoln continue their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks' probable starter is Tyler Herron and the probable starter for the Lincoln Saltdogs is Justin Edwards.
