Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - Sean Henry's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth capped a two-run inning that gave the RailCats a 5-4 walk-off victory in a wild game at U. S. Steel Yard on Tuesday night.

Down 4-3 going into the bottom of the ninth, the RailCats went to work against T-Bones reliever Jake Wiley. Pinch-hitter David Cooper led off with a single then stole second base. Adam Klein followed with a double to left-center to tie the ballgame 4-4. Wiley intentionally walked both Mike Massaro and Mike Coles to load the bases and Sean Henry hit a 3-2 pitch through the hole between third and short for the win. The RailCats snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 16-21 on the season.

Mike Coles hit a two-out, two-run single in the third to put the RailCats on top 2-0 early. The Hammond native leads the club with 28 RBI on the season.

RailCats starter Will Krout, making his second start of the year, did not allow a run in the first three frames. The T-Bones got to him in the fourth, as Enrique Cruz hit a two-out single to score a run and Hunter Mense brought home Cruz with a double to the gap in left center to tie the game at two.

Krout held Kansas City to two runs on six hits in five innings in the no-decision. On the other side, T-Bones starter Devin Anderson went seven innings, also allowing just two runs.

Reliever Nick Polsinelli, signed earlier in the day and making his pro debut, came on in the sixth inning and gave up an RBI single to Trevor Coleman to give the T-Bones a 3-2 lead.

The RailCats would come back to tie it 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mike Coles led off with a single, stole second base and then scored on Kyle Haines' RBI-single back up the middle. A batter later, Brian Kolb singled to left but pinch runner Ryan Babineau was thrown out at the plate by Brandon Jones to end the inning and keep the score tied.

Just moments later in the top half of the ninth, Kansas City struck right back to regain the lead 4-3 after Jose Duran tripled to deep center field and then scored on a Justin Bass single.

Chuck Lukanen (2-0) took the victory for Gary, while Wiley (1-4) took the blown save and the loss for Kansas City.

Game three of the four game set is on Wednesday night at 7:10. RailCats right-hander Stephen Hiscock (1-2) will take on former RailCat Brian Grening (4-2).
