Lowey and Wingnuts Take Down Saints

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the St. Paul Saints 10-1 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.
Josh Lowey improved to 7-0 with eight terrific innings, while C.J. Ziegler cracked his league-leading 12th and 13th home runs of the year to support an offensive attack that scored in five different frames.
With one out and no one on base in the second, Ziegler hit the first of his two home runs--a line drive that cleared the fence just to the left of the batter's eye in center field--to give the Wingnuts a 1-0 lead. David Peralta followed with a single up the middle and took third on Justin Tellam's groundball single through the left side. Peralta scored when Jared McDonald lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. Jake Kahaulelio drew a bases loaded walk later in the inning to force in Wichita's third run.
After the Saints manufactured a run against Lowey in the top of the third, Juan Richardson led off the bottom half with an infield single to shortstop. Richardson advanced to second base on Adam Frost's throwing error, took third on Ziegler's groundout to second, and scored on a Peralta groundball single to center.
Richardson led off the fifth with a single down the left field line. Ziegler followed with a mammoth, two-run homer to left-center that made it 6-1 in favor of Wichita.
Conroy singled leading off the bottom of the seventh. Khoury was next and lined a hit-and-run single to right field. Conroy scored after right fielder Jose Hernandez bobbled Khoury's single. Two batters later, John Rodriguez lined a single to left that scored Khoury.
Lowey allowed one earned run and scattered six hits in the win. Lowey struck out three, walked none, and finished eight innings on just 93 pitches. Lowey has won 18 consecutive decisions going back to last year.
Justin Tellam drove in the Wingnuts' final runs with a two-out, two-run double down the left field line in the bottom of the eighth.
Matt Nevarez, who the Wingnuts re-signed prior to Tuesday's game, threw a perfect top of the ninth to close out the win.
Robert Coe started for St. Paul and took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits. Coe walked three and did not record a strikeout.
Seven Wingnuts had at least one hit. Khoury drew three walks. Richardson and Tellam each finished with three hits.
