ST. PAUL, MN -- St. Paul starter Justin Lord scattered 5 hits over 7 innings, as Sioux City spoiled a great pitching performance from Nick Singleton losing to St. Paul 4-1 on a chilly Monday night at Midway Stadium in Minnesota.

Singleton went 7 innings for the X's, the longest a Sioux City starter has gone all year, but defense failed the right hander in the first inning. With 1 out, Brian Sprout would reach on a throwing error by SS Sam Walker. Then Tim Brown would drive him with a double to center. Marcel Longmire would follow with a base hit to left that Chad Gabriel would bobble, allowing Brown to score.

Sioux City got their only run in the top of the third. Dustin Jones lead off the inning with a hit by pitch. Jorge Rodriquez would bunt him to 2nd and Nick McCoola would drive him with a RBI single.

The Saints would score 2 more in the bottom of the 3rd on back-to-back RBI doubles by Longmire and Jason Colson.

That's all the offense Lord would need, going 7 innings and striking out 7. Lord, Craig Moldrem and Tony Pierce would retire the final 9 batters of the game.

McCoola went 2-4 with a RBI, Alex Llanos went 2-4, and Walker went 1-4. Singleton had another strong start, going 7 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.

The X's fall to 3-9 and will turn to lefty Paul Fagan on Tuesday while the Saints will counter with Charlie Ruud. Game time is 7:05 and it can be heard on 1360 KSCJ and xsbaseball.com.
