The Airhogs down the Diablos 9-4

The El Paso Diablos walked ten batters as the Grand Prairie Airhogs cruised to a 9-4 victory in the series opener from Quick Trip Park on Monday night.

The Diablos took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Albenis Machado scored from second base on an error by the center fielder Drew Holder. Bryon Smith came through with an RBI single giving El Paso a 2-0 lead.

The Air hogs answered in the bottom of the first inning. J.B Tucker had an RBI single and the Grand Prairie cut the lead to 2-1. Aaron Garza smashed an RBI double to left field tieing up the score at two in the bottom of the second.

Grand Prairie took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Josh Neitz yielded a single and allowed two walks loading the bases. Billy Munoz belted an RBI single and Edwin Maldanado grounded into a 5-4-3 double play, allowing two more runs to score making it a 4-2 Airhogs lead.

The game suffered an hour and fifteen minute delay before the top of the fourth inning, as the lights did not turn on. Play resumed at 9:34 PM.

Alex Derhak blasted a solo home-run to left field off of new pitcher Justin Garcia in the top of the fourth, trimming the lead to 4-3.

The Airhogs erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Billy Munoz, Brandon Carter and Aaron Garza all had RBI's in the frame, as Grand Prairie stretched the lead to 8-3.

The Diablos plated a runner in the top of the seventh. Kory Drew ripped an RBI single to center field, making it an 8-4 Airhogs lead.

Justin Garcia (1-0) takes the victory, he threw two innings of relief yielding one run off of one hit with no walks and no strikeouts.

Josh Neitz (1-2) threw four and a third innings allowing six earned runs off of six hits with six walks and four strikeouts. Neitz picks up the loss.

The Diablos will take on the Air Hogs in the second game of the series at 9:30 AM MST on Tuesday morning. Beau Hintz will throw for El Paso against Nat Harris for Grand Prairie. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1380 AM as well as at www.diablos.com with Jon Bar on the call.
