LEADING OFF: The West Virginia Power lost 3-2 to Asheville on Thursday night. The Power took a 2-0 lead in the second on run-scoring base hits by Ryan Nagle and Logan Hill. Logan Sendelbach made that lead stick through seven innings, allowing one run on a solo home run by Brenden Rodgers, while striking out seven. In the eighth, the Tourists pinned a blown save on Tanner Anderson with two runs on two hits and a walk. With two down in the top of the ninth and Daniel Arribas on second, Nagle singled to right. Yhonathan Daza threw Arribas out at home while trying to score the tying run and ended the game. Anderson took the loss and Salvador Justo earned the win. Alexander Guillen notched his first save of the season.
POLO PROMOTED: Tito Polo was promoted to Bradenton prior to Thursday's game in Asheville. The SAL All-Star hit .302 over 54 games for West Virginia this season with a team-high 12 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Polo also led the club in batting average and runs batted in (37). No counter move was made on Thursday.
TOURIST TRAPPED: West Virginia trails Asheville 57-43 in the all-time series dating back to 2005 and has gone 23-28 at McCormick Field. The Power and Tourists only have two series this season. Asheville took a rain-shortened set in late April and early May two games to one. The clubs do not meet again during the regular season after this series.
ONE MORE TO MATCH: Mitchell Tolman went 1-4 last night and extended his on-base streak to 27 in-a-row dating back to May 19. The infielder is one game shy of tying Robbie Grossman's on-base streak during the 2009 season, which is the longest since the Power became affiliate with the Pirates. Tolman's streak is the second longest in the league this season trailing only Charleston's Chris Gittens, who reached in 33 straight from late April until June 1.
GOING LONG: Logan Sendelbach's seven inning start Thursday matched his longest career outing; a seven-inning win over Lakewood on June 1. His seven strikeouts on Thursday also matched his career-best, having struck out seven players three other times this season. The Power are now 11-3 in games Sendelbach has started this year.
ALL-STAR NEWS: The Northern Division defeated the Southern Division 2-1 in the 2016 South Atlantic League All-Star game Tuesday night in Lexington, Kentucky. Mitch Keller picked up the win, striking out two of the three batters he faced in his lone inning of work, throwing nine strikes and just two balls. Starting first baseman Daniel Arribas went 2-3, one of just three All-Stars to have a multi-hit game, while fellow starters Tito Polo went 0-4 and Ke'Bryan Hayes finished 0-2.
KEEP IT DOWN: Dario Agrazal has allowed at least one home run in five straight starts, 11 total, after allowing only home run over his first eight.
DON'T KNOW THE HALF OF IT: The Power finished the first half 35-34 with the loss on Sunday, batting .244 with an ERA of 3.66. The 2015 club went 37-32 with a .253 average and staff ERA of 3.38 in the opening half, before finishing 50-20 in the second half and winning the Northern Division.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia won three road trips and lost four during the first half of the 2016 season... The Power are now 10-12 in one-run games this season... John Bormann reached base in all 21 games he appeared in during the first half of the 2016 season...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost the series finale with San Francisco 5-3... Indianapolis scored five in the fifth during a 9-5 win over Gwinnett... Altoona staved off Binghamton 9-6... Charlotte slipped past Bradenton 5-4 with a run in the top of the ninth... Staten Island handed the Black Bears their first loss of the season 10-4.
PROMO UPDATE: West Virginia will play its first home game of the second half on Monday, June 27, at 7:05 P.M. against the Lexington Legends. All Monday home games are Family Buck Nights with $1.00 general admission tickets, $3.00 box seats and $1.00 concession specials.
ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App.
