GREENVILLE, SC - Kyri Washington hit two home runs, the second of which broke a 5-5 tie and gave the Drive a 6-5 win over the BlueClaws on Friday night at Fluor Field.
Lakewood left the bases loaded in the eighth inning, with Josh Tobias striking out and Damek Tomscha flying out to right to end a threat, and then Adam Lau retired the side in the ninth to earn his third save, getting the final five outs of the game.
The teams have split the first two games of the series and second half with Lakewood (1-1/30-41) seeing their three-game winning streak snapped. The BlueClaws are 4-2 against the Drive (1-1/37-34) so far this year.
Washington, who now has 11 home runs on the year, also homered in the third inning off Lakewood starter Franklyn Kilome. His home run in the seventh came off BlueClaws reliever Luis Morales, who gave up three runs in two innings and fell to 0-3.
The BlueClaws jumped out to a 3-1 lead with a three-run second inning. Deivi Grullon hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot, to put the BlueClaws up 2-0, and Zach Coppola's SAC fly made it 3-1 Lakewood after two. The lead lasted until the third, when Washington's first of two home runs leveled the score at three.
The BlueClaws went back ahead with two runs in the fifth. Damek Tomscha drove in Coppola, who had singled and stolen second, with a groundout, and Jose Pujols followed with an RBI single to bring in Josh Tobias.
Luis Alexander Basabe homered off Morales to tie the game in the sixth before Washington's game-winning home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jake Cosart earned the win, allowing no runs over 2.1 innings in relief, improving to 3-1 on the year.
Four BlueClaws had two hits - Coppola, Pujols, Jan Hernandez, and Wilson Garcia.
The BlueClaws left 12 men on base in the game, going 4-18 with runners in scoring position.
The series with Greenville continues on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Jose Taveras (2-6) starts for Lakewood against RHP Anderson Espinoza (4-5, 4.06).
