THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia dropped the series opener at Greensboro 3-2 on Friday evening. The Grasshoppers scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first off Austin Coley and added a run in the second. The Power got on the board in the sixth on a Chase Simpson sac fly that brought home Tito Polo and cut the deficit down to one on a run-scoring ground out in the eighth. Coley took the loss despite striking out a career-best eight batters. Polo went 2-3 and scored both of West Virginia's runs. Jordan Luplow added two hits in the defeat, which was only the second series-opening loss of the season for the club.

ON THE HOP: West Virginia and Greensboro continue their four game series tonight. The Power lead the all-time set 72-68, but momentum has swung the Hoppers way since the beginning of the 2009 season. Greensboro leads the series 52-36 since West Virginia became a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate. The Power are now 34-37 all-time at NewBridge Bank Park, which opened in 2005.

SUITER SIDELINED: Jerrick Suiter was placed on the Power Disabled List Friday. The first baseman was batting .314 over 16 games this season with a team-high 11 runs batted in. The move was made retroactive to April 29, so Suiter could be activated as early as Tuesday prior to the seven game homestand that begins Wednesday, May 6.

ON A DIME: Cole Tucker went 1-5 Friday to extend his hitting streak to ten straight games. The 18 year-old has 12 hits over 40 at bats since April 16. Tucker's streak is the longest by a Power player this season and tied for the longest current streak in the South Atlantic League, matching Rome's Omar Obregon. It is also the first time a West Virginia player's hitting streak has reached double digits since JaCoby Jones had a 17 game streak from June 20 through July 17 last season.

APRIL TO APRIL: Over 20 April games this season, West Virginia went 13-7, batted .267 with nine home runs and held a staff earned run average of 3.66. After the first month of the 2014 season, the Power were 9-17, had hit .254 with four home runs and held a staff ERA of 3.75.

K-MAN: Austin Coley's eight strikeouts were a career high, surpassing his six strikeout effort on April 24 against Lexington. The eight strikeouts were also the most by any one Power pitcher in any game this season.

TOP 20: The Power's 13 -7 record after 20 games was the best start for the club since becoming a Pirates affiliate in 2009. No other club during the first six years of the affiliation had a record over .500 after 20 games, including the 2013 playoff team. West Virginia also notched its first winning record in the month of April since the 2007 season.

SUCHY SUCHY NOW: Michael Suchy's home run on Tuesday at Hagerstown was his first this season and second of his career. Suchy's lone home run in the 2014 season was an inside-the-park home run off R.C. Orlan of the Auburn Doubledays on August 25 in game one of a doubleheader. Orlan is now a member of the Suns pitching staff.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- MAY 9: West Virginia will host Superhero Night on Saturday, May 9 at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive an official West Virginia Power superhero cape. Kids 12 and under will receive free admission if they come to the box office in costume.

POWER POINTS: Sam Street's appearance Friday marked the first time that the right-hander pitched in a game the Power went on to lose. West Virginia was 5-0 in games Street pitched in prior to Friday... Pablo Reyes's hitting streak has reached six games after the infielder went 1-5 Friday...

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh spoiled a six shutout-inning start from A.J. Burnett in a 2-1 walk-off loss at St. Louis... Indianapolis blanked Lehigh Valley 4-0 with Adrian Sampson earning his first win of the season... Altoona shutout Erie 2-0 behind six innings and seven strikeouts from Tyler Glasnow... Bradenton crushed St. Lucie 12-1. Five players had multi-hit games and Erich Weiss drove in four to lead the Marauders back to a .500 record (11-11).

ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on Charleston's ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App.

Adam Marco will call the action once again and will be joined by Mike Baggerman when the team plays at Appalachian Power Park.
