Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- One night after a brilliant pitching and defensive performance by the Asheville Tourists, they followed it up by allowing a season-high 16 hits and tying a season-high by committing five errors. The Lexington Legends took full advantage. At the end of the evening, Asheville found themselves on the wrong side of a 12-3 final score.

The Tourists took a 1-0 lead on Sean Dwyer's first inning RBI single to right. After that, things pretty much took a turn for the worse. The Legends plated two in the third, two in the fourth, and blew the game open with a six-run fifth. Both teams traded a pair runs through the final four innings

Legends' centerfielder, Brandon Downes, hit a pair of two-run Home Runs for the visitors and Ryan O'Hearn finished with three hits and a walk. Asheville's Dom Nunez recorded a sacrifice fly in the fifth while Drew Weeks connected with an RBI double in the sixth.

Sam Howard was sharp early for the Tourists, but suffered his third loss of the season. Howard struck out eight batters in just over four innings of work. Lexington's Pedro Fernandez had a big lead at his back and pitched well. The right-hander worked 5.2 innings and struck out five. Torey Deshazier worked the final 3.1 frames to notch his first save of the year.

The series is now knotted up at one game apiece with game three set for Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm.
