Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
The West Virginia Power fell 4-1 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The Grasshoppers sent the Power to their second straight loss with a four-run fourth.
Starters Jose Adames and John Sever traded zeros over the first three innings. West Virginia managed base runners in each of the first four innings, but went 0-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded five men on base.
Greensboro broke the game open in the fourth with four runs on five hits. Rodrigo Vigil drove in two runs with a double and John Norwood's second home run of the season extended the Hoppers' lead to 4-0.
The Power broke up the shutout in the top of the ninth. With two down, Pablo Reyes singled to center on a fly ball and brought in Kawika Emsley-Pai from second base. With runner on second and third, Josh Hodges struck out Jordan Luplow to end the game.
Sever (1-1) allowed all four runs on seven hits over four and two-thirds. Adames (1-1) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits while walking two and striking out six.
West Virginia left runners on base in eight of the nine innings and have stranded men on in 16 of 18 innings played in the series. The Power have two hits over 16 at bats with runners in scoring position against the Grasshoppers after the first two games of the set.
Alex McRae will face Tyler Kolek in game three of this series between West Virginia and Greensboro on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
