THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia knocked off Lexington 8-6 on Saturday. The Power tallied three runs in the third, including two on an error. In the sixth, West Virginia sent nine men to the plate, adding five runs on five hits, keyed by a two-run double from Tito Polo for an 8-1 lead. In the eighth, Lexington plated a run against Eric Dorsch and added four more on a Corey Toups grand slam. Austin Coley pitched five innings for his second win of the season. Zach Lovvorn took the loss after allowing the first three runs, all unearned. Nick Neumann recorded the final three outs for his second save. Eight of the nine Power batters scored a run each.
CENTURY MARK: West Virginia's win Saturday night was the club's 100th all-time in the series against Lexington. The Power have played the Legends more than any other team since the start of the 2005 season and now hold a 100-96 series advantage. West Virginia and Lexington meet a total of 16 times this season, including four more games this coming weekend at Appalachian Power Park.
SCHEDULE REVAMPED: Wednesday's suspended game against Hagerstown will be resumed on April 28; the first day of West Virginia's next road trip. The Power and Suns will resume play in the bottom of the second inning with the Suns up 1-0. Since the game was part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, it will be played out to seven innings with a seven inning game to follow.
BEST BACKSTOP: Taylor Gushue leads all South Atlantic League catchers in fielding percentage. In eight games, Gushue has not committed an error in 78 total chances. Gushue is throwing would-be basestealers out at a 28 percent clip, which is eighth best in the league.
STILL STREAKING: Chase Simpson's hitting streak was stopped at five with an 0-3 performance Friday night. The infielder matched Tito Polo's streak at five for the longest by a Power player this season. Simpson's walked in the second Friday and went 2-5 last night to extend his on base streak to nine straight, tied with three others for the longest in the league this season,
FAST FIVE: West Virginia earned its fifth victory of the season on Thursday, needing only seven games to reach that total and becoming the fastest team to five in franchise history. The 2007 Brewers-affiliated club reached the mark in eight games. The most it took any one Power team to reach five wins was 23 games during the inaugural 2005 season with Milwaukee. That team won its fifth game of the year on May 1.
WILD ONES: Power pitchers threw four wild pitches in Friday's loss to Lexington, matching the number thrown by the entire staff over the first seven games of the season. Eight wild pitches tie the club with Hagerstown for the fifth most in the league this season. Four teams have thrown four wild pitches or less total this season entering play Sunday.
POWER PROMO UPDATE- APRIL 25: The West Virginia Power will honor the 1990 Charleston Wheelers, the only team to bring a South Atlantic League title to Charleston. The entire team will be inducted onto the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame and the first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative t-shirt celebrating the 25th anniversary of the championship.
POWER POINTS: Nick Neumann and today's starter, John Sever, have not allowed an earned run yet this season... Wednesday's combined no-hitter from Jake Burnette, Jose Regalado and Eric Dorsch was the second in West Virginia Power franchise history.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: The Pirates beat Milwaukee 6-2. Starling Marte homored in his second straight and drove in five of the six Bucco runs... Indianapolis lost 6-5 at Louisville in an 11-inning walk-off... Altoona surrendered three in the seventh and three in the ninth in a 6-1 loss to Akron. John Kuchno took the Curve loss... Bradenton evened its record at 5-5 with a 4-1 win over Jupiter. Matt Benedict pitched five scoreless for the victory.
