Charleston RiverDogs News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Charleston RiverDogs batted around and scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to come back and take an 8-3 lead when Sunday's game against the Savannah Sand Gnats was suspended due to heavy rain at Historic Grayson Stadium.

SCHEDULING NOTE: The RiverDogs and Sand Gnats will resume and complete the suspended game this Thursday (4/23), at The Joe beginning at 6:05 p.m. The regularly scheduled nine-inning game will follow 30-40 minutes after the completion of the suspended game.

Charleston trailed 3-1 entering the sixth. Dustin Fowler led off the inning with a double to right field. Two batters later, Allen Valerio hit a double later to bring Fowler home and started a chain of four straight RBI hits. Austin Aune followed with a single to score Valerio, Alvaro Noriega doubled Aune home, and Brandon Thomas ripped a single to right to plate Noriega.

The RiverDogs weren't finished though. With the bases loaded and two outs, Fowler walked, Connor Spencer was hit by a pitch, and Valerio walked to score three additional runs. Charleston plated seven in the sixth inning for the second time this season, with the first time coming at home Wednesday afternoon in the series finale against Augusta.

There were two outs in the top of the sixth inning when the game was suspended with Charleston leading 8-3. It will be completed Thursday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park before the RiverDogs and Sand Gnats begin another four-game series.

Savannah scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning. Wuilmer Becerra singled home Stefan Sabol with nobody out, and Tomas Nido scored from third base on a throwing error by Charleston's catcher Noriega.

Charleston struck back with a run in the third inning on an RBI ground out by Abiatal Avelino. Savannah tallied their third run on John Mora's RBI single to center.

For the second start in a row, Jordan Foley faced adversity early but was able to limit the damage. Foley completed five innings and only allowed two earned runs on four hits when the game was suspended.
