THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost Thursday's series opener at Greensboro by a 3-1 final. The Power took a 1-0 lead in the second when Edwin Espinal scored on a ground out by Chris Diaz. The Hoppers evened the score in the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by Felix Munoz. Both starting pitchers, Dovydas Neverauskas and Max Garner, threw six complete, but neither factored in the decision. In the bottom of the seventh, Greensboro scored two against Power reliever Jared Lakind. West Virginia loaded the bases in the eighth, but could not manage another run. Lakind took the loss while Josh Easley picked up the victory. Sean Donatello worked the ninth for the save.

17 GOING ON 18: A sixth inning bunt single extended Reese McGuire's hitting streak to 18 games. The 19-year-old's streak is the longest active run in the South Atlantic League. It is also the second longest streak by a Power player since the affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates began in 2009. Starling Marte hit safely in 22 straight games from July 9 to August 9, 2009. Asheville's Pat Valaika had the longest streak in the league this season (22 games).

TO THE HOP: West Virginia continues its second of three series this season at Greensboro's NewBridge Bank Park. The Power and Grasshoppers have met 126 times since 2005 and West Virginia holds a 68-58 mark in the all-time series. The Power have split 64 games in Greensboro with 32 wins and 32 losses, including four losses this year by a combined five runs.

HIGH QUALITY: On Thursday night, Dovydas Neverauskas worked six complete innings for the first time in his professional career. The Lithuanian has made ten starts this season after starting 15 games in 2013 for Jamestown and had pitched five complete or five-plus innings 13 times over 24 starts. Thursday's start also marked the first quality start in Neverauskas's brief career.

HERE AND GONE: Kawika Emsley-Pai was transferred back to West Virginia's roster Thursday by Pittsburgh after spending 10 days with the Altoona Curve. The catcher went hitless in three games over 12 plate appearances with four walks and two runs scored in his first career stint in Double-A. Emsley-Pai batted .185 over ten games for the Power this season from April 29 - May 16. To clear a roster spot, Pittsburgh transferred Francisco Diaz to the Jamestown roster for the second time this season. Diaz is batting .211 for West Virginia with one home run and four batted in.

RALLY TIME TALES: The Power's victory Wednesday was their sixth come from behind win this season. The club also notched its second win of the season when trailing after six complete. West Virginia was down 5-4 after six, tied the game in the top of the seventh, allowed a go-ahead run in the home half of the inning and then won it with the six run top of the ninth.

MYLES BACK: Candon Myles was activated from the Power Disabled List on Wednesday. Myles was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 20. The outfielder has played in 32 games for West Virginia this season and is batting .208 with no home runs and six runs batted in.
